AP Poll Shows 67% of Democrats want Biden to Withdraw
Biden is not listening to Democratic voters. A new AP poll shows that 67% of Democrats want Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. The principal reason is they do not think he can beat Trump.
Yes, Biden has a great progressive record, and he is to be applauded, but we cannot run the risk of electing the Maniac from Mar-a-Lago and his new Sidekick, J. D. Power Hungry. And right now based on the worst presidential debate performance of all time (and I have seen them all starting in 1960), the lackluster ABC Stephanopoulis interview and the Lester Holt NBC interview, Biden no longer has what it takes to be elected president. He appears tired and old, and he mumbles, drops sentences, loses his train of thought, is not quick to respond and is defensive.
Opposing him is Trump, the liar, and his protege, 39-year old J.D., he having converted from rabid Trump hater to a Trump acolyte and mini-Trump solely so he can get an adrenaline shot of political power that he craves. In fact, Trump and Vance are political power junkies, needing a continual fix.
How can tired and old Biden compete, and Harris could not get past the first run in her own presidential campaign in 2020. I do agree that Harris has matured and developed some good speaking skills in the last four years, but I don’t think it is enough to overcome Biden’s deficiencies.
And Biden has gotten pig-headed and unwilling to listen to people speaking the truth. All of a sudden empathetic Joe reminds me of LBJ in 1966-67 fending off all critics of his Vietnam War. For younger voters, in those years the Democratic Party was the war party, and not until 1967-68 did some Democrats break-out and oppose the War, such as Gene McCarthy, Bobby Kennedy, Jack’s brother, not his wayward son, Proxmire, Gravel, McGovern and others. LBJ fought with all of them until he finally realized, on the night I came back from Wisconsin where I campaigned for McCarthy, that he could not be re-elected and he withdrew.
Biden should take a lesson from LBJ. If you finally are objective and look at the facts, without distortion of the facts by Hunter Biden, Jill, and advisers and debate preparers, Ricchetti, Donilon, Dunn, Bauer and Klain, Biden will understand that he has a high probability of losing a race against Trump. He will subject us to the Trump-Vance Dictatorship and Authoritarian team seeking to impose Christian Nationalism, Abortion prohibition, Tariffs to be paid by Americans while Trump further cuts the income taxes of the wealthy.
Does Biden really want that to be his legacy? Does he want to emulate Ruth Bader Ginsburg who refused to retire from the Supreme Court despite her repeated cancers and other medical difficulties, and then she dies allowing Mitch McConnell to steamroller the nomination of Barrett through confirmation, allowing Barrett, and her five Conservative-Reactionary colleagues, to overrule Roe v. Wade and leave us with Dobbs, and women needing to be airlifted out of states to get an abortion.
Ginsburg was a cultural icon as the Notorious R.B.G., but she blew her legacy giving us Barrett and quickly resulting in loss of the rights that Ginsburg fought hard to achieve. Biden has had a glorious term as President getting more progressive and pro-labor enactments than seen in the Great Society days of LBJ. I wrote a Substack a year ago saying he should retire at the top of his game, and he would receive adulation for all his accomplishments. But then that fatal politician disease of over-accelerated ego and hubris came into play, and he declared that only he could defeat Trump. I urged he make way for younger Democrats to enter the contest, but Biden resisted ending his political career on a high, and now he faces ending it in disgrace.
